Paul Gauguin 1848-1903: The Primitive Sophisticate

This book by Ingo F. Walther is a good basic introduction to the work of Paul Gauguin. Chapters deal with such topics as "The Age of Impressionism" and "Tahiti: A Studio in the Tropics". Perhaps the best feature of the book, however, is the series of beautiful color images of Gauguin's paintings.
