 French Baroque Art

An introduction to French Baroque Art is coming soon!

 Baroque Painters

Claude Lorrain | Claude was a master of depicting landscapes, and he excelled at painting images inspired by the beauty of nature. An example of his work is the magnificent Landscape with a Sacrifice to Apollo.

Georges de La Tour | The play of light and shadow in many of Georges de La Tour's paintings recalls the works of Italian artist Caravaggio. These effects can be seen especially in La Tour's images of Mary Magdalene.

Nicolas Poussin | One of Poussin's most memorable masterpieces in his somber painting Et in Arcadia Ego - in this haunting work, the artist reveals his debt to Classical art.

Baroque and Rococo

Germain Bazin has written a delightful introduction to the art and artists of the Baroque and Rococo periods. Chapters explore the development of these important art movements in various countries, from Italy, to France, to Spain. And plenty of pictures accompany the text.
