Born in Cody, Wyoming on this day in 1912, Jackson Pollock is known for his free, abstract style of painting. Influenced by Mexican muralists such as Orozco, Rivera, and Siqueiros, Pollock's paintings sought to express feeling, rather than simply illustrate it. His innovative 'action painting' technique utilized the dramatic gestures and movements of the artist to orchestrate the energetic dripping of paint... as it fell upon the outstretched canvas located on the floor below.
