Frederick Law Olmsted April 27 Born on this day in 1822, Frederick Law Olmsted is perhaps America's best known landscape architect and planner. Appointed superintendent of New York's Central Park in 1857, Olmsted, who along with architect Calvert Vaux, planned the park's picturesque features including grassy meadows, waterways, trails, and road system. Noted for his preservation and enhancement of natural features, Olmsted's work survives today in numerous parks and public spaces across America. |
