Born in Paris on this day in 1840, Auguste Rodin is acknowledged as perhaps the most influential sculptor of modern time. His dramatic realism, revealed in works such as The Thinker and The Kiss, revitalized sculpture in the late 19th Century... presenting the expressive power of the human body instead of the stylized forms characteristic of the Classical tradition.
