In this tradition dating back to early timber frames, a single evergreen bough is fastened to the uppermost point of a completed structural framework. Still practiced by the builders of today's modern skyscrapers, the bough is a symbolic gesture, paying homage to the trees sacrificed in the construction of a new building.
