A form associated with Russian Orthodox churches and civic buildings, an onion dome is a bulbous-shaped roof with a pointed top, often finished in gold leaf or a richly painted color scheme. While not technically a true dome, the structure is usually constructed of wood framing, and is used to cap a tower or similar element.
