Grant Wood
February 13

Born on this day in 1892, artist Grant Wood was a leader of 20th Century American Regionalism, a movement that celebrated the simple presentation of American folk themes. Woods is perhaps best known for his paintings that captured the spirit of his native Iowa and the rural Midwest. Influenced by German and Flemish masters of the Renaissance, Wood presented an uniquely American landscape... with a stylized formality, realism, and irony as is evident in his 1930 painting American Gothic.
