René Magritte
November 21

Born on this day in 1898, René Magritte is best known for his Surrealist paintings that expressed an unusual juxtaposition of objects in seemingly familiar landscapes. His works, such as his 1929 The Use of Words I and his 1933 The Human Condition I, convey a sense of stark realism and restraint... with a twist of ironic dialogue between the subjects that occupy Magritte's surreal world.
