Brooklyn Bridge
September 21
A feat of engineering and construction, work began on the bridge in 1869 by engineer J.A. Roebling and was finished by his son Washington Roebling in 1883. The 1600 ft. central span of the bridge is anchored at each end by immense 'gothic' piers. The first suspension bridge constructed of steel, it was also the largest of its time.
