Born on this day in 1901, Louis I. Kahn is perhaps best known for his architectural expression of 'served areas' and 'areas which serve'. This functional relationship is a trademark of Kahn's work which includes the Yale University Art Gallery, the Kimball Art Museum, and the Salk Institute Laboratories.
