Born on February 7, 1862, Bernard Maybeck is best known for the unique vocabulary of forms used in his buildings. His eclectic style often included a mixture of vernacular California, Gothic, and Japanese influences. The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco is perhaps his most recognized work, now serving as home to the Exploratorium.
