June 14 Unveiled in September of 1976, Running Fence was an art installation designed to articulate the harmony between art and nature. Created by the artist Christo, the installation was composed of white surplus fabric originally woven for automobile air bags supported by steel posts. The 5.5 meter high fence stood for a brief fourteen days before it was dismantled, winding through the Northern California landscape from Petaluma to the Pacific Ocean, some 24 miles away. |
