Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
June 16

Created by architect Frank Gehry for an international design competition organized by the Basque regional government and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in 1991, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao opened in October 1997 as a modern architectural icon. Clad in limestone and unified by sculptural forms of titanium, the museum is an international center of modern and contemporary art featuring works by artists such as Richard Serra and Jeff Koons.
