Gerrit Rietveld
June 23 Born on June 24, 1888, designer Gerrit Rietveld spent his formative years as a joiner's apprentice and later as a cabinet maker. His works, such as the 1924 Schroeder House at Utrecht, became icons of the de Stijl Movement. But he is perhaps best known for his 1918 Red and Blue Chair... essentially a Cubist painting rendered in space. |
