July 14 Born on this day in 1862, Gustav Klimt was perhaps the most influential artist of the Viennese Secession. He is best known for his works such as 'the Kiss', and his Beethoven Frieze panels from the 1902 Vienna Secession exhibition. His works typically conveyed a seductive presence coupled with historical themes as represented in his 1898 'Pallas Athene'... a powerful image complete with the signature red headed femme fatale held in outstretched hand of Athena. |
